According to The Northwest Indiana and Illinois Times, Brayel Kelly was charged as an adult today (November 21) with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm. By Robert Schmidt Nov. 23 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. government agreed to protect $306 billion of loans and securities on Citigroup Inc.‘s books against losses, as it seeks to shore up investor confidence in the bank. Citigroup will, as a fee for the guarantee, provide preferred shares to the Treasury and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the regulators said in a statement. The government will also inject $20 billion into the bank from the Treasury’s $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program. “We will continue to use all of our resources to preserve the strength of our banking institutions and promote the process of repair and recovery and to manage risks,” the regulators said in the statement. The Federal Reserve, the Treasury and other regulators have been negotiating with Citigroup throughout the weekend. Citigroup lost 60 percent of its market value last week as the company’s prospects faltered, rattling customers, counterparties and employees. To contact the reporter on this story: Robert Schmidt in Washington atrschmidt5@bloomberg.net. In October, ABC News reported that despitePresident Bush’s promises that the National Security Administration’s warrantless wiretapping program was aimed only at terrorists, the NSA frequently listened to and transcribed the private phone calls of Americansabroad. The network’s report was based on whistleblower interviews with two former military intercept operators. One of the whistleblowers, former Navy Arab linguist David Murfee Faulk, told ABC News that he and his co-workers listened in on “hundreds of Americans” over the years: Another intercept operator, former Navy Arab linguist, David Murfee Faulk, 39, said he and his fellow intercept operators listened into hundreds of Americans picked up using phones in Baghdad’s Green Zone from late 2003 to November 2007. “Calling home to the United States, talking to their spouses, sometimes their girlfriends, sometimes one phone call following another,” said Faulk. But it wasn’t just ordinary Americans. In a new report today, Faulk tells ABC that during his time working for the government, “U.S. intelligence snooped on the private lives of two of America’s most important allies in fighting al Qaeda: British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Iraq’s first interim president, Ghazi al-Yawer”: David Murfee Faulk told ABCNews.com he saw and read a file on Blair’s “private life” and heard “pillow talk” phone calls of al-Yawer when he worked as an Army Arab linguist assigned to a secret NSA facility at Fort Gordon, Georgia between 2003 and 2007. Though “collecting information on foreign leaders is a legal and common practice of intelligence agencies around the world,” former intelligence officials tell ABC News that the U.S. and Britain have a long-standing agreement “not to collect on each other“: The NSA works extremely closely and shares data with its British counterpart, the GCHQ, Government Communications Headquarters. “If it is true that we maintained a file on Blair, it would represent a huge breach of the agreement we have with the Brits,” said one former CIA official. After ABC’s initial report in October, Senate Democrats promised to investigate the whistleblowers’ allegations. The Inspector General for the NSA is also reported to be investigating the allegations by Faulk and another former military intercept operator, Adrienne Kinne. Today, Fox News announced that Alan Colmes will be leaving his 12-year gig as co-host of “Hannity and Colmes.” From the release: FOX News Channel’s (FNC) Alan Colmes will relinquish his role as co-host of Hannity & Colmes at the end of the year. In announcing his decision, Colmes said, “I approached Bill Shine (FNC’s Senior Vice President of Programming) earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network. Although it’s bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.” Colmes will continue to have a presence on FNC as he will serve as a liberal commentator on a variety of FOX News programming, including Foxnews.com’s The Strategy Room and continue hosting his radio program, The Alan Colmes Show on FOX Talk, a division of FOX News Radio. He will also begin developing a weekend program. No word on whether Fox will hire a new liberal to counter Hannity. Newsweek reports that, since Rachel Maddow’s show debuted on Sept. 8, “she has more than doubled the ratings of her predecessor, Dan Abrams, with 1.9 million average total viewers, and she’s beaten CNN’s Larry King 27 out of 44 nights among viewers 25 to 54.” MSNBC executives say the key to her success is her hard work: For Maddow, the job never really stops. She regularly works 16-hour days, only eating once she has finished. She often has just one large meal at 2 a.m., purchased from street vendors. [Executive producer Bill] Wolff says she “simply wants to be excellent.” Phil Griffin, the head of MSNBC, attributes her success to a certain “magic,” and to her application: “She comes in every day and studies for eight hours. I think one of the biggest mistakes that people make when they come in to television and cable news, which is a really intense, competitive area, is to not work Since 2005, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), who is currently locked in a tough run-off election battle against Democrat Jim Martin, has been in charge of the Republican Majority Fund. The PAC, established in the 1970s, was set up to help fund GOP candidates. However, as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports today, Chambliss has instead used it as a personal fund to ingratiate himself to lobbyists, reward his political contributors, and fund his golfing habit: Under Chambliss, however, 68 percent of the Majority Fund’s spending – about $1 million – has gone for travel, golf events, meals and administrative costs, reports to the Federal Election Commission show. Political contributions comprised just 32 percent of the committee’s spending, or $472,500. In 2007 and 2008, the Majority Fund’s political donations accounted for 26 percent of its spending, the second-lowest among the 25 largest leadership groups. […] [O]f the top 10 recipients of the Majority Fund’s money since 2007, only one was a political organization. Five were golf resorts. Chambliss is an avid golfer. Despite having a “bum knee” that kept him out of military service in Vietnam, Chambliss ranked as the #2 golfer in the Senateand the 33rd best golfer in Washington, DC, according to a 2005 feature by Golf Digest. That same year, while his colleagues were in a closed-door session discussing pre-Iraq war intelligence, Chambliss took the day off to golf with Tiger Woods. Therefore, it’s perhaps not surprising that two months after taking over the Republican Majority Fund, “Chambliss put on a golf outing at the Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Fla. — the first of 20 at top courses and resorts: Pebble Beach in California; The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla.; The Greenbrier in West Virginia, among others. Chambliss’ companions on these trips were, with few exceptions, registered lobbyists and their clients.” In the past two years, Chambliss has also used these official funds to golf with lobbyists for defense contractors, AIG, and Fannie Mae. In 2007, Chambliss even spent more than $7,000 of the Republican Majority Fund’s money on “golf supplies.” He must feel right at home with his colleagues in Congress and the Bush administration. The LA Times reports that California’s unemployment rate soared to a 14-year high in October, hitting 8.2%. The most populous state “shed 26,400 people from its payroll last month, raising the total number of lost jobs to 101,300 since October 2007.” Analysts predict “the situation is about to get worse.” The state’s rate ranks third in the U.S., exceeded only by those of Michigan and Rhode Island, at 9.3% each. In his press conference today, Obama says he wants Detroit automakers to come up with a "plan" before they can receive a bridge loan that will keep three million jobs from being lost as we teeter on the edge of a global depression. I guess this is the plan for Citi and AIG: AIG, Citibank and a number of other federally bailed-out financial institutions have no plans to cancel hundreds of millions of dollars in sports team sponsorships, even as they take billions in taxpayer support, ABC News has found. In boom times, the sponsorships were seen as a way to advertise the firms' "brands" and appeal to potential customers. Even today, at least one bank told ABC News that a naming deal was increasing its revenue. But critics, including a member of Congress, say the decision to continue them now is hard to defend. Struggling Citibank just sealed a multi-billion-dollar emergency "backstop" deal with the U.S. government. The financial behemoth, suffering with billions in bad mortgage-related assets on its books, recently shed 53,000 workers and saw its stock price lose over half its value. Yet it's in a 20-year contract to pay the New York Mets $400 million to name the team's new stadium "Citi Field." "This type of spending is indefensible and unacceptable to Citigroup's new partner and largest investor: the American taxpayer," said Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., in a statement Monday. There are a million UAW pensioners living in fear right now because pontificating, sanctimonious, disingenuous creeps like Richard Shelby are on TV preaching that they must give up the retirement funds they spent a lifetime contributing to because they make Detroit "uncompetitive" with Japanese automakers in his state. No mention is made that right-to-work states like Alabama give foreign auto makers a protective advantage by making it illegal to unionize. Pelosi and Reid want to be reassured that no bonuses will be given out to anyone in the auto industry making more than $200,000 a year, while Wall Street bonuses will actually be more generous as a result of their bailout. They want Detroit to promise that bridge financing money won't be paid in dividends to stockholders, yet the Treasury said it was okay for banks to pay out half of the funds they received to shareholders because "suspending quarterly dividend payments would have deterred banks from participating in the voluntary program." Obama now says that the automakers must prove they can be profitable andcreate more fuel efficient cars before they will get federal assistance for a problem caused by mismanagement of the same financial institutions who had no strings whatsoever put on their loans, despite the fact that there is no proof that people will buy more fuel efficient cars when gas prices are low -- something the government can affect, but which the automakers have no control of whatsoever. But thank gawd A-Rod can still pick up the tabs for those spending sprees if he wants to get busy with Madonna. I was getting worried there for a minute. A month after being granted U.S. patent No. 7,441,196, a company in Los Angeles called EMG Technology is suing Apple for “the way the iPhone navigates the Internet,” according to a press release. The suit did not specify the damages EMG is seeking, but the company has hired a serious gun: Stanley Gibson, one of the lead trial attorneys who won the $1.35 billion patent infringement lawsuit against Medtronic. One of the patent’s inventors is Elliot Gottfurcht, who is best known as a Los Angeles real estate developer. The patent covers methods for reformatting Web pages onto mobile (and other) devices, as well as for manipulating those Web pages using zooming and scrolling techniques. The suit is specifically targeting the touch-screen browser on the iPhone, but it could just as easily apply to any mobile browser, including the one on the Android phone. The name of the patent is “Apparatus and method of manipulating a region on a wireless device screen for viewing, zooming and scrolling internet content.” It was filed on March 13, 2006. Palm is laying off an undetermined number of its 1,050 workers this week in an effort to stem the effects of the economy and Palm’s decreasing smartphone market share. While it’s not a shock - everyone is doing it! - Palm now has to deal with RIM and Android eating their lunch and iPhone essentially stealing the entire casual smartphone market out from under it. On Facebook, the spam you get from friends is bad enough, but tolerable. The really bad stuff is actual spam, which more and more people are being subject to. On Friday, judge Jeremy Fogel in San Jose, California, awarded Facebook $873 million in damages against Adam Guerbuez and Atlantis Blue Capital under the CAN-SPAM act. (Ruling embedded below). It is the largest award under the act ever granted, topping the $234 million award MySpace won against spammers last May. The chances of Facebook ever collecting that amount from the defendants are minimal (spam pays, but not that much). Still, sit sends the right message to other Facebook spammers out there. Jumping from one crowded space to another, Evite competitor MyPunchbowlhas just launched a new eCard service, allowing users to send customized greeting cards using its impressive card editor. Users will be able to choose from an array of holiday, birthday, and thank you cards, which they can embellish with family photos and a number of text effects. CEO Matt Douglas says that while there are many other sites on the web that offer free Ecards, the vast majority of them are unprofessional and aren’t very visually appealing. With MyPunchbowl’s Ecard Studio, Douglas says that the company is striving for an electronic equivalent to the classier (but more expensive) sort of card you might find in a stationary store. Zuberance has raised $4 million in Series A funding from Emergence Capital Partners, with general partner Gordon Ritter joining its board of directors in the process. Zuberance offers a suite of SaaS applications that enable companies to identify and track customer advocates, and mobilize them to automatically publish authentic content like reviews and testimonials to specific locations within shopping and review sites like Amazon.com, YouTube, TripAdvisor and Facebook. This effectively turns customers into a volunteer promotion workforce that shares offers with their friends and colleagues. I bumped into Artiklz at the Blog08 conference in Amsterdam last month, and got a rundown of what the LA-based startup was working on while the service was still in alpha mode. Today, Artiklz is releasing its finetuned and upgraded application in private beta with a slew of new features. We have 500 invites for TechCrunch readers; all you need to do is sign up here and tell them we sent you. Artiklz aggregates comments around content from a variety of services (including Digg, Reddit, Yahoo! Buzz, FriendFeed, Mixx, Delicious, Diigo etc.). In addition, they offer plug-ins to track conversations on major blogging services like Blogger, TypePad, Movable Type, and self-hosted WordPress blogs and centralize what’s being said and referenced regarding your own content as well as discussions about it across the web. It’s not the first time we’ve heard rumors about Facebook looking to acquireTwitter or about an impending deal breaking down. But this time, Kara Swisher over at BoomTown offers a bit of insight about the deal size. According to Kara (and her sources), Facebook was offering $500 million of its stock at the infamous (and ridiculous) $15 billion valuation to acquire Twitter up until 3 weeks ago. Apparently talks, which were reportedly initiated by privately-held Facebook, broke down because of doubts on behalf of Twitter investors and executives about the stock’s actual worth, the usual concerns that arise when acquisitions are made, and a strong belief that Twitter will ultimately be able to weather the storm on its own. Also noted is Facebook’s concern over Twitter’s current burn rate and future revenue potential. 6:30 AM on Mon Nov 24 2008
Most discussed ruined: The link to reboot your brain points back to the previous link. The real article is here: Reboot your Brain more » by Tim Stevens The unthinkable will be thought, the unimaginable will be imagined, the undoable will be done! Microsoft will finally enter the phone business sometime next year. Ballmer should be happy right? Microsoft’s smartphone will probably try to compete against the iPhone, but will that be possible at all? They have a head start and some experience in the mobile business. Windows Mobile will go to version 6.5 and then 7.0 but what about the rest? The smartphone will be built on NVIDIA’s SoC or system-on-a-chip platform. So it’s not a Zune phone is it? Will that work? Here’s what the Inquirer has to say about it: What do you get if you take an iPhone, remove the clean UI, user friendliness, nice industrial design, battery life, cachet, functional OS, and in general everything else that makes it worthwhile? The new Microsoft phone, powered by NVIDIA. The SoC will be NVIDIA’s Tegra chip, according to the Inquirer. Tegra is available for GPS, handhelds and notebooks and smartphones. The Tegra APX 2500 is the chip for the phone and it has a 600 MHz MPCore Processor, up to a 12-megapixel camera support, GeForce ULV support for OpenGL ES 2.0 and up to 720p H.264 decoding. The NVIDIA nPower technology will get you over 10 hours of HD video playback and about 100 hours of audio. We might see the device next February at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona and shipping will start soon after. My mid 2009 we should have the first Microsoft smartphone ready to compete against Apple’s third generation iPhone? This isn’t something we weren’t expecting. T-Mobile has increased their wireless data prices for smartphones users. Unlimited data that used to cost $19.99 per month will cost $24.99 in the future. And there’s one more thing. It’s not unlimited anymore, it’s capped at 400 SMS or MMS messages. Unlimited data costs now $34.99 a month. That’s besides what you already pay for your Voice plan. Getting a G1 will get you a default $24.99 data plan.
But unlike any other netbook, the C1 has Hello Kitty written all over it. That’s why it would cost you no less than $890 to get it. Too much you say? I agree!Jaime Foxx & T.I. In The Studio

Heckuva Bailout: Citi and AIG Still Pay Hundreds Of Millions In Sports Sponsorship
By: Jane Hamsher Monday November 24, 2008 10:08 am
November 24, 2008. Here's what one of MediaTakeOut.com's faithful reported about NBA baller Chris Paul:
I'm an area stripper (yes, I don't sugar coat it), internet pornstar and live video actress. [Chris Paul] had a party recently I've done bookings that they and other athletes have attended in the past and made pretty decent.
I was called to do the booking by one of my homegirls. I've done parties for them in the winston-salem area. They requested 3 chicks. One of the girls didn't show up to the party. She didn't answer the phone calls, txts or anything. So it was just 2 of us.
For starters, they were late. They've done parties with us before, and know what we expect. Come with tips. I didn't plan on bringing change. Once we get there, they said they had no money to tip. NO MONEY?!
This was at a lovely country club type hotel, and he's a nba ball player, now. C'mon. I've known this fool since he was a kid. The fee is 150 an hour per girl to dance. Instead of tipping us, they said they'd give us 200 a piece. They didn't feel as if they should give us anything because the 3rd girl didn't show up.
They also didn't want the guys who we use for security(it's some crazies in the world. We don't go without them) anywhere in the conference room. They had to stand outside. It started late due to them not only being late but killing time, and the guys complained until we started dancing. They didn't tip hardly.
The money mysteriously disappeared. We asked his brother CJ about the tips. The other dancer thought I had them, vice versa. We usually have a person who picks the money up, but they requested that they sit outside.
So he went to "look for the money" and came back with 40 dollars a piece. Then they got mad cause we wouldn't stay any longer. Hell, it cost me 70 to fill my car up with gas.
Now that wasn't nice Chris!!!
November 24, 2008. If you're a Tyra talk show fan ... watch it while you can - cause it might be off the air pretty soon. Word is that FOX and the My networks have decided to stop airing The Tyra Banks' Show. But don't fret to hard. Tyra will still be airing on the CW network ... for now that is...
Here's how Reuters is reporting her new "change" in scheduling:
Economics played a role in its move out of syndication as stations are forced to make budget cuts amid the economic downturn. To cut costs, "Tyra's" production schedule will be cut to 26 weeks from 34, with an episode from the first four seasons airing at 3 p.m. and a new installment airing at 4 p.m. "Tyra" repeats also will continue to air in late-night on women's cable channel Oxygen....
"Tyra Banks" this season is averaging a 1.0 household rating, off 9% from the same period a year ago, which puts it in a different league from higher-rated talkers including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Dr. Phil" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show"Steven Seagal to Star on A and E New Series
The new series where the 56-year-old actor will star in is entitled "Steven Seagal: Lawman". Featuring Seagal and a team of deputies investigating crimes, it also focuses on Seagal's off-duty ventures, including musical performances and philanthropic efforts in Jefferson Parish and New Orleans. The airdate of Seagal's new series is still to be determined.
Chris Brown Eyes Duets With Madonna and Coldplay for Upcoming LP 'Grafitti'
On the red carpet at the 36th annual American Music Awards (AMAs), held Sunday, November 23 at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre, Chris told the press, "It's going to be my stepping stone from Chris Brown to superstar." He didn't give further details on his upcoming album though.
Sneak Preview of 'Lipstick Jungle' 2.10: Chapter Seventeen
Sneak peek to "Lipstick Jungle" episode 2.10 has been revealed in a preview below. The preview hints that the episode will be the most emotional chapter of the season.
"Chapter Seventeen" revolves around Nico Reilly and Kirby Atwood who adjust to life with baby Charlie and find themselves at a crossroads in their relationship. Meanwhile, Wendy Healy faces some difficulties to get her latest project off the ground when an arrogant movie producer tries to take her dream project from her. Apart from exposing the clip, USA Today also included an interview with Jamal Woolard, the actor who gets the chance to portray the legendary hip hop artist whose real name is Christopher Wallace. Of the essence of the film, he stated that it "is about manhood", explaining further, "It's about a boy turning into a man, and that is Christopher becoming The Notorious B.I.G."

Auto Delete Keeps Your Hard Drive Clean
Windows only: Free application Auto Delete monitors any user-specified folder and deletes files older than a set amount of time, from 1 day to 1 year. When deleted, files can either be sent to the Recycle Bin or permanently deleted. There isn't much else Auto Delete can do beyond that, but it's one of those dead simple tools that does exactly what it says without much fuss, which we always like. On the other hand, if you're looking for a more robust version of Auto Delete—including options to move, rename, copy, or delete files based on multiple conditions—you might consider giving our very own automated file management tool Belvedere a try. Auto Delete is a free download, Windows only. UPDATE: Our apologies for the dupe.
